Dad's back

So my dad is back :) It was nice to come home and then someone was actually around (though Dad was sleeping ._____________. ) It marks one more week till Mum's back and to be honest, REALLY want her back :p I dunno..just miss seeing her round the house :)

The last two mornings I've spent in ICU. Though really it's just been mainly observing - did more in ICU last year than I have this year which is rather strange. That blonde chick of a supervisor is nice :) How is she so smart? :P Then the last two afternoons had SIMULATED patients so basically they are actresses/actors of differing ages who get changed into gowns and jump into bed with a Hudson Mask on blasting 6L/min away and coughing phlegm everywhere - 'cept there is no actual phlegm. Just imaginary. And on auscultation, obviously it is a normal chest but the supervisor shouts out they've actually got bronchial BS or something...funny! But the really good thing about it is the "patient" actually giving you feedback - something you don't get in real life. So they can tell you how the communication and rapport was etc etc. Then at the end we all have this good discussion between the four of us and supervisor. So I think the learning there is alright but of course, nothing can replace the real thing. Just SO hard and annoying to do assessments and treatments in pairs or fours seriously! That's not realistic...what was hilarious to see was after finishing up with the "patient" they just got up or like we were talking to them naturally and they got changed etc to their normal clothes - so bizarre to see that...then it's like well see you tomorrow!

Apparently they do it to LaTrobe kids too and one of them talked about it as if it were a full-time job and that in the morning I was such-and-such a patient and now I'm getting confused because now I'm pre-op not post-op etc HA! I wonder how much they get paid?
